OUR MISSION
At Science 3D, our mission is to ignite a lifelong love of discovery by bringing the world's most extraordinary locations and animals into every classroom and home — through documentary-style science expeditions that fuse cinematic storytelling with rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum. We believe every student, whether in a traditional school, a co-op, or learning at home, deserves access to the kind of immersive, wonder-driven science education that doesn't just teach concepts but builds the curiosity, critical thinking, and real-world understanding that will define the next generation of scientists, explorers, and problem-solvers.
PATRICK GREENE
Co-Founder
Patrick Greene is an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, biologist, and science educator whose work sits at the intersection of rigorous science and compelling storytelling. A biologist by training, Patrick has traveled the globe — from remote ocean expeditions to dense rainforests and beyond — filming the world's most extraordinary animals and the researchers who study them. His multiple Emmy Awards reflect a career spent pushing the boundaries of science filmmaking, and his work has appeared on ABC, National Geographic, PBS, and Discovery Channel. Deeply passionate about inspiring the next generation of scientists and explorers, Patrick believes that when young people see real science happening in the real world, something ignites in them that no textbook alone can achieve. As co-founder of Science 3D and Symbio Education, he has collaborated with dozens of leading scientists to translate cutting-edge field research into immersive, curriculum-aligned content, producing more than 500 educational videos that have reached millions of students across the United States. His rare combination of scientific training, world-class production experience, and lifelong commitment to science communication is what makes Science 3D's expeditions feel genuinely real — because they are.
MICHAEL HEITHAUS, PH.D.
Co-Founder
Dr. Mike Heithaus is a globally recognized marine ecologist, explorer, and educator — and one of the world's leading experts on sharks and large marine predators. At Florida International University, he serves as Dean of the College of Arts, Sciences & Education and Professor of Biological Sciences. He has published more than 200 scientific papers and book chapters and co-edited five books on sharks and their relatives. As an educational author, he has co-authored two high school textbooks — Holt Biology and Environmental Science — and serves as a program author on several K–8 science programs. On screen, he has been involved in the production of more than 30 natural history documentaries, including appearances on National Geographic's Shark Fest and Discovery's Shark Week, and hosted National Geographic Channel's Crittercam television series. His field research is equally impressive: his work in Shark Bay, Australia is considered the most detailed study of the ecological role of sharks in the world, and his findings on the consequences of removing large predators from ecosystems have directly informed international conservation policy. Dr. Heithaus brings this rare combination of rigorous science, real-world exploration, and classroom expertise to every Science 3D expedition.
