Frequently Asked Questions

HOMESCHOOL FAMILiES

  • Yes — Science3D was built with homeschool families in mind. The curriculum is self-paced, works independently without a dedicated teacher, and covers grades 3–8. Parents can assign missions as standalone units or as a full-year science spine. No prep work or science background required.

  • Yes. The multi-student family plan lets up to 4 students share a single subscription.

  • Science3D is a popular choice for homeschool co-ops. Group plans are available for co-ops with 5 or more students. The expedition-based format works well in a group setting — students can watch missions together, discuss as a group, and complete the hands-on activity packs collaboratively.

  • The digital plan requires only a device and an internet connection. Printed mission readers and activity packs are available for purchase separately through our online bookstore. Activity packs use common household materials and don't require lab equipment. We also encourage students to get outside and explore their own backyard — curiosity doesn't need a classroom.

  • Science3D covers the majority of core science standards and is primarily used as a high-engagement supplement alongside other core science curriculum. It can absolutely serve as your family's main science resource, but many families find it works best paired with a core program. School districts have used it for after-school engagement coursework.

  • Most families spend 2–3 hours per week on Science3D. Each mission includes an expedition video, reading from the mission reader, and a hands-on activity — totaling approximately 4-5 hours of lesson time per mission. Each grade level includes 4 missions, for a total of roughly 16-20 hours of coursework. Many families and classrooms divide the missions across the four quarters of the school year. The pacing is flexible — you can spread a mission across multiple days or work through it in longer sessions.

  • Yes. Mission readers are leveled so a 3rd grader and a 6th grader can work through the same video expedition at their own reading level. This makes Science3D ideal for multi-age households and co-op groups with mixed grades.

Classroom & School

  • Yes. Science3D is approved for school and district use. Contact us directly to learn more about licensing options and how to get started.

  • Yes. Every Science3D mission is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Lesson-level alignment documents are available for teachers and curriculum coordinators, making it easy to map Science3D to your required standards.

  • Each mission is designed to fit within standard class periods. Expedition videos run 10-12 minutes, leaving time for discussion and activity work. Teachers can assign the digital content independently, use it for whole-class viewing, or flip the classroom by assigning video viewing at home. Each mission is approximately 4-5 hours of coursework, so we recommend one mission per quarter during the school year.

  • Yes. The teacher dashboard shows individual student progress, mission completion, and assessment results. This gives teachers the data they need for grading, differentiation, and reporting to administrators.

  • Science3D is designed for grades 3–8, with broader K–12 coverage available for schools that need full-spectrum science programming. Contact us for details.

  • Yes. The self-guided expedition videos and structured mission readers make Science3D an excellent option for substitute days. Students can watch a mission, complete reader questions, and begin an activity with minimal teacher facilitation.

Curriculum & Content

  • A mission is the core unit of Science3D curriculum. Each mission takes students on a documentary-style science expedition — immersive video content paired with an illustrated field journal (the mission reader) and a hands-on activity pack. Missions are organized by scientific topic and grade level.

  • Science3D covers core life, earth, and physical science topics across grades 3–8, aligned to NGSS. Subject areas include ecosystems, geology, physics, chemistry, astronomy, biology, engineering, and more — all explored through real expedition footage and fieldwork.

  • A mission reader is Science3D's printed colored field journal — an illustrated, leveled book that accompanies each expedition video. It reinforces vocabulary, introduces key concepts, and includes comprehension activities. Readers are leveled so students at different grades can access the same mission.

  • Activity packs contain hands-on science experiments and projects tied directly to each mission's content. Activities are designed to be completed at home or in a classroom without specialized lab equipment, using readily available materials.

  • Science3D is built around documentary-style expedition footage — real scientists, real locations, real fieldwork. Where many competitors rely on animation or simple demos, Science3D brings students into the field. The combination of cinematic video, leveled reading, and tactile activity packs creates a multi-sensory learning experience that most other programs don't offer.

  • Yes. Each mission includes comprehension questions in the mission reader and digital assessments accessible through the student portal. Teachers and parents can use these to gauge understanding and identify areas where a student may need additional support.

  • Science3D is a secular curriculum grounded in mainstream science and NGSS alignment. It presents science through evidence-based exploration without incorporating religious content, making it appropriate for public schools, secular homeschoolers, and families of all backgrounds.
